Gregory L. "Poopsie" Melvin

Gregory L. “Poopsie” Melvin, 72 of Fallowfield Twp. passed away Saturday March 29, 2025 at Jefferson Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 26, 1952 he was the third son of the late Joseph and Norma Leach Melvin. Greg graduated with the class of 1970 from Charleroi High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in teaching from California State College. He retired from Corning Glass where he worked as an electrician, but was much better known for playing softball throughout the Valley in his younger years and coaching basketball for nearly all of his adult life. Coaching was one of Greg's true passions. He coached for the California Trojans, the Mon Valley Catholic Spartans, the Charleroi Cougars, and finished his coaching career with the Yough Lady Cougars. Greg enjoyed yearly family vacations, golf trips with the guys, and playing cards at every opportunity. 

On August 16, 1975 he married his high school sweetheart Patricia Endreszl. In addition to his wife of almost 50 years, he is survived by a son Matthew Melvin of Van Voorhis., a daughter Danielle Behrendt and granddaughters Victoria and Lily Behrendt of Fallowfield Twp., a brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Caroline Melvin of Washington Twp., his mother-in-law Leona Endreszl, in-laws Kathy and Tim Bayley, Brian and Jamie Endreszl and numerous nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Donna Melvin. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 2nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, and Thursday April 3rd from 10-11am. Funeral services at 11am Thursday April 3rd with Pastor James Watts at the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave. Charleroi. In lieu of flowers please donate to the youth sports organization of your choosing.
